Toffee Bars

Notes — It wouldn’t be a Wakefield Christmas without Grandma D’s famous, and family favorite, toffee bars. (unknown kcal/recipe)

Ingredients (Cookie Base)

  • 3/4 cups butter
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour

Ingredients (Chocolate Topping)

  • 3 full size milk chocolate bars
  • finely chopped walnuts

Instructions (Cookie Base)

  1. Preheat oven to 275˚F
  2. Mix all ingredients together
  3. Press mixture into pan
  4. Bake for 20–25 minutes

Instructions (Chocolate Topping)

  1. While the bars are baking, break up the chocolate into small pieces. Remove the baked bars from the oven and immediately top with the chocolate. Once melted, spread the chocolate to cover the bars with a pastry spatula. Top with walnuts. Cut immediately. Let set in the refridgerator.
