Baking Powder Biscuits

Notes — Best when served with sausage gravy. (1842 kcal/recipe)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 scant tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 5 tbsp cold butter
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425˚F.
  2. Mix together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cut butter into into small 1/4 inch pats then cut those into the flour using a fork or a pastry cutter. Fold it all together until it makes a rough textured mix.
  4. Add the milk and stir until the dough forms a solid ball.
  5. Roll onto floured surface then let sit for 30 min to rise and rest.
  6. Pat down the dough to be about an inch thick.
  7. Cut square or round biscuits but don’t twist the cutters, since it will make the biscuits less likely to rise.
  8. Place on oiled baking sheet and bake for 10-15 min or until golden brown.
