Grandma Wakefield’s Apple Sauce Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup applesauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients. If it is too soft, cover and refrigerate. Heat oven to 375˚F. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons – place 2 inches apart. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet and cool.
  2. Mix brown sugar and butter together to make a glaze. After cookies are cooled, add glaze over cookies.
